SMD code P8902
Marking codes are not standardised, and the same code is reused by unrelated makers for unrelated parts. Below is every part in our tables printed with it, and any printed with a code that is easy to misread as it, from the manufacturers' own marking tables and published code lists.
P8902 on a chip capacitor
0.89 pF
0.89 pF capacitor
The p is both the decimal point and the unit: 0.89 pF.
Check it with a meter
Lift one end and measure it on a capacitance range. A good one reads close to 0.89 pF. In circuit the meter also sees everything connected across it, so the reading means little until it is out. A failed one usually reads near 0 Ω, or a steady low resistance, on the ohms range, often from a crack. On the board a shorted capacitor shorts its whole rail. A failed reading does not change what to fit: the marking still says 0.89 pF.
On a transistor or diode body, P8902 is a part code instead. Those parts are listed below.

Is it dead?
Ohms range across it, and a capacitance range with it lifted.
Working, it reads
On the ohms range it reads open, or climbs to open as it charges. Lifted, a capacitance range reads close to its value.
Dead, it reads
- Near 0 Ω, or a few ohms: shorted. The usual failure, often from a crack caused by board flex or heat, and it can come and go.
- A steady resistance, kilohms rather than open: cracked and leaking.
- Lifted, far below its value on a capacitance range: cracked open or drifted. Less common than a short, but it happens.
- On the board
- a shorted capacitor shorts its whole rail, so every capacitor on that rail reads the same short. Lift one end, or feed the rail from a current-limited supply and feel which part warms up.
- Compare:
- Chip capacitors are mostly unmarked, so the value comes from the schematic or the same position on a working board.
A dead part still carries its marking. A short or an open says it has failed, not that it is a different part.
